FAQ

What snow and wind loads is this shelter rated for?

Each shelter page lists its rating in the Specifications table. By frame series: Gold Mountain Single Truss 1.6 kPa snow / 0.30 kPa wind (33 / 6.3 psf), Single Truss Enhanced 1.8 / 0.34 kPa, M Model Double Truss 2.0 / 0.37 kPa, NORDURA 2.4 / 0.40 kPa (custom builds up to 3.7 / 0.65 kPa). Ratings assume the shelter is installed and anchored as described in the manual and that snow and ice are cleared promptly instead of being left to accumulate.

PE or PVC cover: which should I choose?

PE (300 g/m²) is lighter and lower in cost, suited to light and medium duty, and carries a 2-year warranty. PVC (420 to 750 g/m²) is heavier, UV- and tear-resistant, waterproof and fire-retardant, and carries a 2-year warranty plus prorated protection (1 to 6 extra years by series). For year-round use in Canadian winters we recommend PVC. With normal care a cover lasts about 7 to 10 years.

Single truss or double truss?

Single-truss frames are lighter, lower in cost and quicker to install, and suit moderate climates and spans up to about 30'. Double-truss frames use twin tubes per arch for higher snow and wind ratings, wider spans and higher clearance, with more parts and a longer install. The M Model and NORDURA series are double-truss, engineer-stamped designs.

What warranty does the shelter have?

Frame: 2 years (Single Truss PE), 3 years (Single Truss PVC), 5 years (Double Truss), 8 years (M Model), 10 years (NORDURA). Cover: 2 years, plus prorated protection of 1 / 3 / 6 / 6 years for the PVC series. The warranty starts on the invoice date; register by emailing the serial number and invoice number to info@cheryindustrial.ca. Full terms are on the Shelters Limited Warranty page.

Do I need a building permit?

Fabric shelters are often treated as temporary structures, but rules depend on your municipality, the shelter size and how long it stays up. Check with your local building department before ordering. Our storage shelters are certified by Quebec engineers (OIQ), engineer-stamped drawings are available, and our Shelter Permit Service ($2,500) has our engineers contact the municipality and prepare the application for you.

What foundation and anchors do I need?

Shelters can be set on compacted gravel, soil, asphalt or concrete, as long as the surface is level. On concrete, the base plates are fixed with expansion (wedge) anchors; on soil or gravel, use ground stakes or earth anchors, which can be ordered separately. Container shelters bolt or weld to the top rails of two shipping containers. Anchors, ratchets and straps are listed under Parts & Accessories.

Can I install the shelter myself? How long does it take?

Yes. Every shelter ships with an illustrated manual, also downloadable from the product page. A 20' to 30' single-truss shelter usually takes two to four people one to two days; larger double-truss and container shelters take longer and need a lift or scaffold. If you prefer professional installation, we work with installers in several regions; contact customer service for a quote. Keep photos of your installation, as the warranty asks for them.

Which containers does a container shelter fit?

Standard 20' or 40' shipping containers at 8'6" height. The shelter width (20' to 60') is the clear span between the two containers. High-cube containers (9'6") work for the roof, but endwalls are sized for standard-height containers.

How big is the door opening?

It depends on the model and is listed on each product page. Typical openings: 14.4' × 10.7' on a 20'×12' round shelter, 11.5' × 11.5' on a 30'×15' round shelter, 14.5' × 13' on a 30'×20' double-truss shelter, 18' × 16' on a 50'×25' double-truss shelter, and 13.6' × 13.6' on container shelters.

How is the shelter shipped, and what does delivery cost?

Shipping is free across Canada. Shelters ship by freight on pallets or in crates to the front of your building; have a forklift, pallet truck or a few people ready to unload. You can also pick up from our warehouses in Ontario, Quebec or British Columbia; shelter pages show the pickup discount. In-stock shelters normally ship within one week; out-of-stock and custom orders take about two to three months.

Can I get a different colour or a custom size?

Yes. Custom sizes, colours and materials are available on request; custom covers are made to order and take about three months. Contact our sales team for a quote.

Are replacement covers and parts available?

Yes. Replacement roof covers, front and back endwalls, fix tape for small cuts, ratchets, straps and anchors are sold separately, and each shelter page lists the parts that fit it under "Parts & Accessories". Parts remain available after the warranty ends.

Is the fabric fire-rated?

Our 750 g/m² PVC fabric has passed NFPA 701:2019 Method 2 flame-propagation testing (SGS report, May 2023). The report covers the fabric sample; ask us if your site needs a specific certificate.

How do I maintain the shelter?

Re-tighten the cover and straps once or twice in the first months, especially after a cold-weather install, and after strong wind or heavy snow. Clear snow and ice promptly, keep both doors closed (or both open) in high wind, inspect the frame, anchors and fabric at least three times a year, wash with mild soap and water only, and repair small cuts with fix tape before they spread.
