Built for Canadian Winters: A Practical Comparison of Our Shelter Models

Built for Canadian Winters: A Practical Comparison of Our Shelter Models

At Chery Industrial Canada, we have always focused on delivering high value-for-money storage shelters—without compromising structural integrity. Over the years, we’ve continuously improved our designs based on real customer feedback, real winter performance, and real Canadian weather conditions.

From basic economical models to engineer-designed, building-code-ready structures, our goal is simple:
Better performance. Smarter design. Stronger winter protection.

Let’s break down how our three generations of shelters perform in snow and wind.

Gold Mountain – The Classic Budget Shelter

Positioning: Entry-level / Budget-friendly
Best for: Light winter areas, seasonal storage
Key Feature: Affordable & simple structure

The Gold Mountain shelter was designed to offer maximum affordability. It has helped many customers with economical storage solutions. Because it is a tension fabric structure, snow management is important.

Winter Use Guidelines:

  • Snow should be cleared after significant snowfall.
  • Annual maintenance is recommended (retightening fabric and checking anchors).
  • When snow is cleared in time, the shelter performs well.
  • Heavy, wet snow left unattended can accumulate and overload the structure.

Like all fabric tension buildings, the structure relies on proper tension and load distribution. If snow is allowed to accumulate excessively, the weight can exceed design limits.

Gold Mountain Shelter Example

However, when used properly and maintained with timely snow removal, Gold Mountain shelters operate without issue.

Gold Mountain Shelter Usage

This model remains a cost-effective solution for users who are comfortable with seasonal snow management.

M Model – Upgraded Design, Same Price Level

Positioning: Mid-level performance
Best for: Moderate Canadian winters
Key Advantage: Improved snow-shedding design

The M Model was created as a structural upgrade to the Gold Mountain series — without increasing the price.

What’s improved?

  • Higher peak and optimized roof curvature.
  • Better snow sliding performance.
  • Improved structural balance.
  • Reduced snow accumulation risk.

The upgraded geometry makes it harder for snow to sit flat on the fabric. Instead, snow tends to slide off more easily compared to the older design.

While snow removal is still recommended during heavy snowfall, the upgraded shape reduces the frequency and urgency of clearing compared to entry-level models.

Important:
Although significantly improved, the M Model is still a tension fabric structure. In extreme snowstorms or high wind load regions, it may not be sufficient on its own.

If your location experiences:

  • Heavy wet snow
  • High wind zones
  • Long snow accumulation periods
  • Municipal permit requirements

You may need something stronger.

Nordura – Engineered for Canadian Conditions

Nordura Engineered Shelter

Positioning: High-performance / Engineered solution
Best for: Harsh winter regions & permit applications

When winter conditions become more extreme, structural engineering becomes critical.

Our Nordura shelters are designed by Canadian engineers with a deep understanding of local climate demands. Engineered in Canada, Nordura shelters are built with:

  • Understanding of local climate conditions.
  • Compliance with Canadian Building Code requirements.
  • Engineer-certified documentation available.
  • Designed for mainstream Canadian wind and snow load standards.

This is not just an upgraded tent.
It is a structural solution designed for long-term use in real Canadian winters.

If you need:

  • Municipal approval
  • Permanent installation
  • High snow load capacity
  • Peace of mind during extreme storms

Nordura is not simply an upgraded tent — it is an engineered structure built for long-term reliability.

Final Comparison

Model Price Level Snow Maintenance Extreme Weather Permit Ready
Gold Mountain Budget Required after every snowfall Not recommended No
M Model Same price, upgraded design Reduced but still required Limited No
Nordura Premium engineered Minimal Designed for it Yes

Choosing the Right Shelter

Canadian winters are not equal everywhere.

  • Light snow area? → M Model may be sufficient.
  • Heavy snow or municipal permit required? → Nordura is the safer investment.
  • Looking only for lowest cost and willing to maintain frequently? → Gold Mountain (legacy model).

At Chery Industrial Canada, we believe in being transparent about performance.
A shelter is not just about price — it’s about understanding wind load, snow load, and real-world maintenance.
